By entering and using dogs.ie you agree to the following terms and conditions. If you have a problem, complaint or wish to contact us, please email us at support@dogs.ie or fill out the contact form and we will endeavour to reply to you a soon as possible.

1. General Terms

We wish to make these terms and conditions as straight forward as possible, and we are delighted that you are taking the time to read these carefully! These terms and conditions are designed to protect everyone (the advertiser, the buyer and dogs.ie). Please let us know if any aspects are unclear. Failure to abide by the following terms may lead to your access to dogs.ie being limited and / or revoked.

2. Purchasing a puppy / dog / service

Should you proceed to purchase a puppy, a dog or a service from an advertiser:

  • the contract formed for that is one made solely between you and the advertiser. We recommend you perform your own buyers' due diligence.
  • Dogs.ie is not a party to any contract. As such, we are not liable for the contract, its performance or for any claim or dispute arising out of or in connection with it. We are also not acting as an agent for/of the advertiser.
  • Dogs.ie makes no warranty as to the quality or fitness of any puppies offered for sale. We cannot accept responsibility for any transaction between puppy buyer and the breeder arising from publication of the listing. Upon purchasing a puppy we recommend you have a vet check the puppy.
  • Dogs.ie cannot and does not facilitate the vetting of breeders advertising on this site on behalf of a puppy buyer nor can we guarantee the accuracy of any statement made by any breeder advertising.
  • Animal Health and Welfare (Sale or Supply of Pet Regulations) 2019 stipulates that Registered Seller of Pets & Dog Breeding Establishments (DBEs) must provide their licence details in all their ads for dogs for sale. This act also requires that all dogs advertised for sale are microchipped and registered. All ads for dogs for sale in Ireland are required by law to include a date of birth, country of birth and the microchip information.
  • A buyer of a puppy is advised to meet both the breeder and see the dam of the litter, and the puppy itself before committing to a purchase of the dog. We strongly advise against meeting at any location such as a car park or business location.
  • The information on this website is published with the kind permission of the breeder(s). The information is for use by prospective puppy purchasers only and should not be reproduced in any manner electronically or otherwise for any purpose whatsoever without the express consent and authorisation of the breeder(s) concerned.

3. Your Use Of The Site

You agree to provide the correct information on your account and in your ads, and that you will only create one account. You will keep ads up to date. To use dogs.ie you will need to have an active email account and an Irish or UK mobile phone number. Depending on the type of advertiser you are you will provide the correct information as follows:

Private Seller (Republic of Ireland)

Sellers that sell or supply less than 6 dogs per year are classed as a Private Seller. They don't need to provide any additional registrations. Supply counts giving pets to friends, family members, etc.

Registered Seller of Pets (Republic of Ireland)

Sellers that sell or supply 6 or more dogs in a year, but have less than 6 female dogs of breeding age on their premisies. Registered Sellers of Pets need to register with the Department of Agriculture. As a Registered Seller of Pets you are required to put your Unique Registration Number in your all your ads. Dog Breeding Establishment (DBE) (Republic of Ireland)

Sellers that sell or supply 6 or more dogs in a year, and have 6 or more female dogs of breeding age on their premisies are required to register as a Dog Breeding Establishment. Dog Breeding Establishments need to register with their local authority for a a licence to breed dogs. Ads by DBEs on dogs.ie will include their license number and the maximum number of breeding bitches that the license is for. [More info]

Hobby Breeder (Northern Ireland)

Hobby Breeders are breeders that 1 or 2 breeding bitches and are not classed as a licensed breeder.

Licensed Breeder (Northern Ireland)

A licensed breeder is a breeder that, keeps 3 or more breeding bitches and one of the following

  • supplies 3 or more litters of puppies in a 12 month period
  • advertises 3 or more litters for sale in a 12 month period
  • advertises as being a business that breeds or sells puppies

Ads by Licensed Breeders on dogs.ie will include their breeder license number and the maximum number of breeding bitches that the license is for.

Charity accounts

Registered Charities qualify for free accounts, their charity number is included in their ads.

Company accounts

Users of company accounts for adverting services (dog groomers, dog trainers, dog walkers, vets, etc. ) confirm that they have the right & authoriy to advertise a business and will provide correct and accurate information.

4. Our Ad Posting Rules

You agree that you will comply with the following conditions when posting any advert on dogs.ie :

  • Once published, all ads are non-refundable
  • Information- You will post actual photos of your dog(s) and accurate information about breed, age, etc.. All dogs need to be physically in Ireland and be in good health ‡.
  • Ownership- You are the owner of the dog(s) and they are registered in your name (important). You will provide a microchip numbers for all dogs and you have copies of the microchip certificates on-hand.
  • All dogs have to be microchipped and registered in a database
    • Republic of Ireland - must be one at least one of IKC, ICC, Fido or Animark.
    • Northern Ireland - must be one of the check-a-chip.co.uk partners.
  • All dogs have to be over 7 weeks of age to be advertised for sale. Dogs that are 7 weeks on a Saturday or Sunday can be published on the Friday before.
  • All dogs have to be over 8 weeks of age before they can leave their mother.
  • License - Republic of Ireland
    • In the case you are selling 6 or more dogs in a year you are legally required to register with the Department of Agriculture to be a Registered Seller of Pets. This ID must be in all your ads.
    • Anybody who has 6 or more female dogs over six months of age and capable of breeding must register under the Dog Breeding Establishment Act of 2010 with their local authority to be a Dog Breeding Establishment (DBE). This licence number must be in all your ads.
  • License - Northern Ireland
    • If you keep 3 or more breeding bitches and one of the following, you will need to suppply a breeding licnce from your local council
      • supplies 3 or more litters of puppies in a 12 month period
      • advertises 3 or more litters for sale in a 12 month period
      • advertises as being a business that breeds or sells puppies.
  • Ads with dogs who have cropped ears are not accepted, even if the procedure has been performed where it may be legal.
  • Ads with docked tails and dew claw removal will require an appropriate veterinary attestation confirming the procedure was completed inline with the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 Section 16.
  • Minimum price for dogs for sale is €100, you will not advertise "free to a good home" [info]
  • Stud dogs need to be over 12 months of age.
  • Pregnant bitches or whelping bitches cannot be advertised for sale. [info]
  • We do not allow anyone under the age of 18 to advertise. Also, we do not allow anyone under the age of 18 to use the website to contact an advertiser.
  • Dogs.ie retains the rights to edit ads for clarity.
  • Dogs.ie retains the right of refusal of ads.
  • Dogs.ie retains the right of share ad info with the relevant authorities in the case of suspicious activity.
  • You user data may be used on any of our websites and apps including marketing pages to show current user activity, promote views of your ad, syndication to (adultdogs.ie, pedigree.ie, puppies.ie, pups.ie & stud.ie, irish.dog etc.).

5. Additional Terms - Content Usage

  1. You must not replicate, republish, sell, rent or sub-licence any material from our Website without our written permission.
  2. You agree to link back with a web hyperlink or in-app hyperlink to our site on the page or app screen where you use the data from our APIs or site.
  3. You must not use any part of the content on our Website for commercial purposes without obtaining a licence to do so from us or our licensors, e.g. contacting members about your business.
  4. The Site may contain links to other sites on the internet (“Linked Sites”). Dogs.ie is not responsible for the accuracy, legality, decency of material or copyright compliance of any Linked Site or services or information provided via any Linked Site.
  5. You agree to be courteous to buyers, sellers and other members on the platform.
  6. We collect data about your browser, IP, location for analytics purposes.
  7. If you contribute content data to the site, you provide us with a perpetual license to broadcast, display, distribute, sell and produce derivatives from your contributions.

6. GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) Requests

We recognise your right to privacy and to remove your personal information from our systems. GDPR grants consumers certain rights regarding their personal data, including the right to access, correct, and delete their data, the right to object to the processing of their data, and the right to data portability. Additionally, GDPR requires businesses like dogs.ie to obtain explicit consent from consumers before collecting and processing their personal data, and to take appropriate measures to secure and protect that data. By registering and / or submitting an ad you are giving us the right to store and display your data.

GDPR requests can be sent to support@dogs.ie. Personal account data can also be removed via the Profile Settings page and following these instructions. Note: All ads need to be closed & subscriptions cancelled before you can remove your account.

7. Cancelling subscriptions

Ads with subscriptions can be cancelled at any time. You will have the use of the ad until the end of the billing period. You can manage suscriptions under Profile » Billing Portal » Cancel plan - [info].
